Basrah - College of Pharmacy Media:
The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the College of Pharmacy, University of Basrah, held a seminar titled "Isolation, Synthesis, and Evaluation of the Biological Activity of Quercetin Derivatives." The lecture was delivered by researcher Riham Adnan Taha.
The seminar included a presentation of quercetin isolated from Iraqi onion peels, in addition to quercetin derivatives that were synthesized in the laboratory and characterized practically and theoretically using various techniques. It also included a study of their practical biological activity as antioxidants, antibacterials, and against Triple-Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC), in addition to a theoretical study of their anticancer activity using molecular docking technology.
The study found that all quercetin derivatives have a stronger anticancer activity than that found in quercetin itself, and they also showed activity against Gram-negative bacteria (E. coli).
