The Clinical Laboratory Sciences Branch at the College of Pharmacy, University of Basrah, held a scientific workshop titled (Therapeutic Nutrition... Modern Horizons and Applications). The workshop featured a scientific lecture delivered by therapeutic nutrition specialist from the United States of America and member of the American Nutrition Organization, Dr. Mohammed Yahya Al-Salman, in which he explained that obesity is influenced by food, physical activity, sleep, and psychological stress, alongside individual and environmental factors.
He also offered a number of important tips for better health, including consuming less processed food to allow the body to respond more quickly, and choosing sustainable healthy dietary habits. Not everyone requires three meals a day, and supplements alone are not sufficient for weight loss. Delaying the first meal, reducing refined foods, and choosing food closer to its natural state all stimulate the body's response to food.
The workshop aimed to clarify the factors that affect weight, understand the relationship between food and the body, and correct the notion that obesity is caused by food alone. It highlighted that informed dietary choices can be made, and that the effects of sleep, psychological stress, and lifestyle must be understood, in addition to adopting realistic healthy habits suited to each individual.
