Origins and Academic Integration

Since the College of Pharmacy's inception, the department was originally merged with the Pharmaceutical Chemistry department under the name "Department of Chemistry and Pharmacognosy". During this phase, supporting subjects were taught by specialized faculty from various scientific departments to ensure a comprehensive education.

Academic Autonomy

The year 2011 witnessed a radical transformation in the department's structure, as it was officially separated to become an independent entity named the "Department of Pharmacognosy, Medicinal Plants, and Supporting Sciences". This decision enabled the department to focus more specifically on research and specialized plant sciences.

Expanded Scope & Current Role

Following its establishment, the department assumed full responsibility for teaching all supporting science subjects across the college, including: Computers, Arabic Language, Democracy and Human Rights, Mathematics, Statistics, and Medical Terminology, reinforcing its pivotal role in the academic journey of pharmacy students.
