A journey rich in academic and research contribution that began with the founding of the college and evolved to become a cornerstone in pharmaceutical education.

1999 AD

The Foundation & First Launch

The Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology was established in 1999, coinciding with the birth of the College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah. In that initial foundational stage, the department was an incubator for a wide range of basic medical sciences, where its academic description included lessons in pathophysiology, biochemistry, medical physics, and mathematics, alongside pharmacology and toxicology sciences.

2008 AD

Academic Independence & Specialization

The year 2008 witnessed a fundamental shift in the department's journey, as it was decided to separate it to become an independent specialized department focusing entirely on pharmacology and toxicology sciences. This independence opened up broader horizons for the department's research development and excellence in teaching specialized subjects, which enhanced its scientific status among the college's departments.

Current Reality

Today, the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology represents an indispensable academic pillar, as it includes a group of scientific elite who contribute to graduating generations of distinguished pharmacists, with continuous work on updating curricula and expanding the horizons of scientific research in the field of modern pharmacology and toxicology.
