History

The College of Pharmacy was established in 1999 within the University of Basra due to the urgent need for numbers of pharmacists who have the scientific and technical competence to carry out various pharmaceutical services. Today, it is parallel to the international colleges of pharmacy compared to the years of its inception in terms of building, staff, equipment, level of study, and curriculum. The College of Pharmacy began its journey towards progress and development with a teaching staff that includes various specializations that have developed, so that the number of teaching staff has become one hundred and thirty-eight, including seventeen with the title of professor, thirty-eight with the title of assistant professor, forty-two with the title of lecturer, and forty-one with the title of assistant lecturer. The number of students is constantly increasing because the horizons are open and the ambition is high in order to continue this development. The future vision of the college, in addition to its main duties in preparing competent pharmaceutical cadres, is that the college seeks to expand the six scientific branches accredited in colleges of pharmacy and increase the number of teaching staff with pharmaceutical specializations through admission to postgraduate studies inside and outside Iraq, as postgraduate studies were opened within the college for the academic year 2016 / 2017 and an attempt to seek investment to establish an educational pharmaceutical laboratory and establish a unit for examining and evaluating pharmaceutical and nutritional materials and openness to the community to provide the best services and equip the college with modern equipment from various sources, taking into account quality and sustainability as an approach in this regard, as a continuous and sincere effort by the dean, assistants, heads of branches, members, heads of administrative units and employees of the college.
