Lecturer Najlaa Al-Saffar from the College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah delivered a training and awareness lecture at a workshop organized by the Southern Gas Company in cooperation with the Women's Affairs Division at the University of Basrah, titled (Effective Dialogue Between Parents and Children... Building Bridges of Trust and Communication Within the Family).
The lecture covered several themes, including: the importance of communication, active listening, body language and tone of voice, dialogue style and asking questions, emotional intelligence and anger management, and barriers to effective communication.
Al-Saffar also explained that communication is the backbone of every successful family. For example, being a listener is one thing, but listening actively — with your entire body and not just your ears — is what constitutes effective listening. Body language filled with love for every family member, paired with a tone of voice suited to the situation, is considered a smart parenting approach. The greater the emotional intelligence parents possess, the better they are able to manage their anger appropriately. Furthermore, communication is not merely an act, and it cannot be successful unless it is accompanied by feelings that reinforce the bonds of love and spiritual harmony within the family.
