A research team at university of basrah has published a research in an international journal

Basrah - College of Pharmacy Media:

Faculty members Dr. Ban Mohammed Saleh Saeed and Dr. Shaker Abdul Salem Nema from the College of Pharmacy, and Dr. Basil Abdul Zahra Abbas from the College of Veterinary Medicine, published a research paper titled "Pharmacological and Biological Evaluation of the Compound 5,5’[(1,4-Phenylene) bis(1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-amine)]" in the British Journal of Physics: Conference Series. The journal has an impact factor of (0.51) and is indexed in Scopus.

The research included the synthesis of a thiadiazole compound, which showed biological activity against various types of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and cytotoxicity on red blood cells at certain ratios causing their lysis were also determined, in addition to determining the median lethal dose (LD50).

The research aimed to identify the pharmacological properties and biological activities of the locally prepared compound, and the possibility of using it as an antibacterial agent against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, and as an antibiotic against antibiotic-resistant bacteria or in synergy with them.
