The College of Pharmacy at University of Basrah organized a discussing episode entitled (Acute and Chronic Inflammation of the Nail), with the participation of researchers and specialists, on the Zoom platform. The episode included a lecture given by the pharmacist. Zainab Najm in which she showed that acute and chronic inflammation around the nail is an infection or injury that occurs due to the rupture of the cuticle layer surrounding the edge of the nail, which leads to the entry of germs and the occurrence of inflammation, as there are two types of which are: acute caused by bacteria in a large proportion and are called staphylococci and fungi also exist (Candida) and viruses (herpes simplex virus), but at a lower rate. As for the chronic type, it is caused by the Candida fungi in a large proportion, and also staph bacteria and herpes simplex virus are present, but in a smaller proportion. The lecture aimed to clarify this type of injury, how to diagnose it, its symptoms, its treatment, and ways to prevent it, as it is one of the most common skin diseases in the community.
