The College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah has successfully defended a Master's thesis entitled:

"Gastroprotective Effects of Turmeric and Tahini Against Indomethacin-Induced Gastric Ulcer Model in Rats"

The thesis, presented by student Alaa Al-Din Ali Arhaif, investigated the gastroprotective effects of Turmeric and Tahini — individually and in combination — against Indomethacin-induced gastric ulcers. The study also included histological examination of gastric tissue and comparative analysis of pathological changes across experimental groups.

The study aimed to evaluate and compare the gastroprotective, hepatoprotective, and nephroprotective effects of Turmeric and Tahini, both separately and in combination, against damage induced by Indomethacin and ethanol. It further sought to examine their role in reducing oxidative stress and enhancing gastric mucosal defence mechanisms through biochemical marker assessment and histopathological examination.

The findings demonstrated that the combination of Turmeric and Tahini exerted a marked protective effect, proving more effective than either substance used alone in mitigating gastric, hepatic, and renal injury. The results suggest that this natural combination holds significant promise as a preventive and therapeutic strategy against gastric ulcers and associated systemic complications.
