A faculty member at the College of Pharmacy, University of Basrah, Dr. Qutaiba Abdulkarim Qasim Al-Hajjaj, has published a research paper titled:

"Neuroprotective potential of selenium nanoparticles and/or physical and mental activities against social isolation-induced depression in a rat model: inflammatory, oxidative stress, apoptotic, and neurotransmission modulatory pathways"

The paper was published in the Swiss journal Frontiers in Pharmacology, indexed within the First Quartile (Q1) in the field of Pharmacology according to the Scopus database, with a CiteScore of 9.5.

The study investigated the neuroprotective effects of selenium nanoparticles, combined with physical and mental activities, in mitigating social isolation-induced depression using an animal model.

The findings revealed that these interventions contributed to reducing inflammation, oxidative stress, and neuronal apoptosis, as well as enhancing neurotransmitter regulation, highlighting their promising potential in preventing neuropsychiatric disorders associated with social isolation.
