The University of Basrah has achieved an impressive sixth place among universities and private colleges in the latest edition of the prestigious Spanish (SCImago) global university rankings.

The President of the University, Professor Dr. Muhannad Jawad Kadhim, stated: "This significant achievement reflects the immense efforts exerted by the university in continuously developing its academic and research programs. It highlights our firm commitment to providing an advanced educational environment that aligns with the latest global standards, alongside our continuous dedication to enhancing sustainability practices within the campus."

He added that this advanced result confirms the distinguished scientific status of the University of Basrah both locally and internationally. It proves its steadfast determination to achieve sustainable higher education standards in a manner that keeps pace with global environmental and developmental challenges.

It is worth mentioning that the SCImago ranking relies on a rigorous composite index combining three main criteria based on: scientific research performance (50%), innovation outputs (30%), and societal impact (20%). Each main criterion includes precise sub-indicators such as the number of published research papers, citations, and relative impact factors, in addition to requiring the publication of at least (100) research papers in the database within the evaluation year.
