Workshop Conducted on "Mpox: Identification, Symptoms, and Protective Measures"
The Women's Empowerment Unit at the College of Pharmacy, University of Basrah, organized an educational workshop regarding the transmission and risks of Mpox.
Keynote speaker **Dr. Raya Habib Abdul-Imam**, from the Basrah Health Directorate, identified Mpox as a viral disease causing fever, distinctive skin rashes, and swollen lymph glands. While the disease typically resolves within weeks, Dr. Abdul-Imam highlighted that higher risks of complications and mortality exist for children, pregnant women, and the immunocompromised.
The primary focus of the workshop was on essential prevention strategies, including patient isolation, avoiding contact with bodily fluids or skin lesions, wearing masks, and practicing rigorous hand hygiene. The session aimed to empower the institutional community with the knowledge necessary to mitigate the spread of the virus.
