The College of Pharmacy organizes a seminar on nanotherapy and targeted drug delivery

The Pharmaceutics Branch at the College of Pharmacy, University of Basrah, held a discussion seminar titled (Translational Nanotherapy from Specific Clinical Cases and Targeted Drug Delivery).

The lecture delivered by Dr. Ahmed Najm demonstrated the use of nanotechnology to translate laboratory discoveries into effective medical treatments by improving drug delivery to targeted tissues and cells, increasing their efficacy, reducing side effects, and enhancing their solubility and stability. The most important medical applications addressed were cancer treatment — improving the delivery of anti-tumor drugs and reducing their impact on healthy tissues — and the key medical applications of targeted nanotherapy, including vaccines and gene therapy: using lipid nanoparticles to deliver mRNA, as in COVID-19 vaccines; brain diseases: developing systems that facilitate drug delivery across the blood-brain barrier; medical diagnostics: improving medical imaging and developing systems that combine diagnosis and treatment; and advanced drug delivery: controlling drug release and improving its solubility and stability.
