Two faculty members at the College of Pharmacy obtain an American patent

The teaching staff at the College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah Dr. Rafid Abdul-Raouf Dolab and Dr. Muhammad Sabbar, obtained a US patent titled (A new device for assessing drug permeability in the intestine using the data acquisition evaluation technique).

The patent included a method of drug transport across different barriers and membranes, which is important in terms of pharmacological interest in terms of intestinal diffusion Diffusion through biologics
Membranes are an essential step in the extent of drug absorption, which is mostly by passive diffusion according to the concentration gradient from a high concentration area in the gastrointestinal tract to a low concentration area in the systemic circulation.
At all times the model of different barriers involved in drug absorption through the mucosa of the small intestine which consists of adipose regions and aqueous regions in parallel.
This model is more accurate and manipulative than other models by modifying the novel and tissue chamber containing the desired gut segment (rat intestine) associated with the supply of mixed gas (O2) used for ventilation which is a steam bath warm from the special buffer (37°C).  In the experiment it is a warm water circulator used to maintain tissue temperature and the data acquisition system used to record tissue responses.  The frequency and amplitude of contractions were recorded immediately after the drug was injected into the tethered intestine, and the percentage of drug penetration could be measured using a selective and specific quantitative method.
