Basrah - College of Pharmacy Media:

The College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah organized a scientific symposium titled "Pathological Analyses and Their Role in Society," with the participation of professors and researchers.

The symposium included a lecture by Dr. Abdul Ilah Abdul Hussein, in which he explained the standard degree of medical laboratories due to their great importance in supporting the health system. Studies have also shown that 70% of the accuracy of disease diagnosis depends on medical laboratories; therefore, emphasis must be placed on introducing the international quality system ISO (15189), which is specific to the standard state of medical laboratories.

As for Dr. Qutaiba Abdul Kareem, his lecture was about the importance of cholesterol, its benefits to the body, and its relationship to atherosclerosis and heart attacks, aiming to correct the misconception that cholesterol is harmful and causes heart attacks. Recent studies in recent years have concluded that heart diseases and heart attacks do not have a direct relationship with blood cholesterol levels.

Dr. Iyad Qasim also explained the importance of bioinformatics, which has become a significant part of many life fields and in experimental molecular biology. This includes drug discovery, healthcare, genomic sequence comparison, and evaluating the molecular structure of all organisms. This allows for the extraction of valuable results in a short period after analyzing their data using bioinformatics software.

The symposium aimed to change the prevailing idea about the danger inherent in cholesterol, in addition to directing the provision of preservatives and special containers for laboratory specimens (tissue biopsies) when sending them to the pathology laboratory. The symposium also emphasized the need for awareness and education regarding the importance of early diagnosis of cancer and its prevention.
