The College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah discussed the Master's thesis presented by the researcher Zainab Mezher Razzaq, titled: "Chemical and Biological Study of Some Plant Formulations Extracted from Some Types of Wild Gundelia."

The study aimed to isolate active components from the Gundelia (Koub) plant and evaluate their effects on visceral and cutaneous leishmaniasis, as well as their antioxidant potential compared to standard treatments like "Pentostam" and Vitamin C.

The results concluded that the petroleum ether extract is highly effective against both types of leishmaniasis, suggesting potential for future drug development. Additionally, the methanol extract demonstrated antioxidant properties superior to Vitamin C, highlighting the significant therapeutic value of Iraq's native flora.
