A Master's thesis was defended at the College of Pharmacy, University of Basrah, titled:
"The Effect of Pomegranate Blossoms, Peels, and Peganum Harmala Seeds on Advanced Glycation End-Products and Other Metabolic Parameters in Type 2 Diabetic Patients".
The thesis, presented by the student Eman Faleh Abdul-Rahim, involved evaluating the impact of pomegranate blossoms, pomegranate peels, and Peganum harmala seeds on advanced glycation end-products (AGEs), in addition to certain hematological and lipid profiles in patients with type 2 diabetes. A clinical trial was conducted to compare these parameters before and after the intervention to explore the potential of these plants as natural supportive supplements for diabetes management and to enhance scientific knowledge of their potential health benefits.

The study aims to demonstrate the potential health benefits of pomegranate blossoms, pomegranate peels, and Peganum harmala seeds, and to advance the scientific understanding of their role in affecting advanced glycation end-products (AGEs) in patients with type 2 diabetes. This contribution could help minimize disease-associated complications and support patient healthcare, as well as investigate their correlation with other vital biomarkers such as fructosamine, lipid profiles, and hematological indices.
