Master's Thesis Defense | Hair Loss & Biological Causes:
The College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah held a discussion for a Master's thesis titled: (Study of the relationship between oxidative stress, insulin resistance, and mild inflammation in patients suffering from hair loss compared to normal individuals), presented by the student Noor Qais Yassin.
The thesis explored the causes of hair loss—a common problem affecting appearance and psychological health. Normally, a person loses about 100 hairs a day, but exceeding 150 hairs is considered pathological. This condition is caused by disruptions in the hair growth cycle due to genetics, hormonal changes, and oxidative stress that weakens hair follicles.
The study aimed to analyze the correlation between oxidative stress markers, inflammatory cytokines, insulin resistance, and levels of Vitamin D and Ferritin in patients with diffuse hair loss compared to healthy individuals. The results provided crucial insights into the underlying biological mechanisms of hair loss, offering a promising foundation for identifying novel biological therapeutic targets to reduce associated oxidative stress and inflammation.
