Master's Thesis Defense: Ahmed Mohammed Jassim on Symmetrical Ibuprofen Modification

The College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah conducted a Master's thesis defense for postgraduate student **Ahmed Mohammed Abdul Wahid Jassim**, titled: "Symmetrical Modification of the Chemical Structures of Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs and Evaluation of Biological Activity".

The study utilized Ibuprofen as a starting material to develop eight new pharmaceutical compounds by converting its carboxylic group into Schiff bases linked with 1,2,4-triazole-3-thiol, aimed at enhancing pharmacological potency.

Key Research Outcomes & Laboratory Validations:
Chemical Synthesis
Synthesis of 8 novel compounds derived from Schiff bases
Spectral Verification
Structural confirmation via FT-IR, NMR, and Mass Spectrometry
Biological Utility
Superior inhibition of TNF-α compared to standard Ibuprofen
