Basrah - College of Pharmacy Media:

Dr. Nisreen Waleed Mustafa, a faculty member at the College of Pharmacy, participated in the First International Conference on Pathological Analyses organized by the College of Science at the University of Basrah.

Her participation included a research paper evaluating the therapeutic efficacy of the hormone (Nandrolone decanoate) on the mature and immature stages of the parasite (Fasciola gigantica).

The research aims to determine the efficiency of this hormone in treating animals infected with fascioliasis, an infectious disease that affects humans and animals caused by infection with the parasites (Fasciola hepatica) and (Fasciola gigantica). These parasites settle in the liver and feed on hepatic cells, causing severe damage that eventually leads to liver cirrhosis.

The results demonstrated that the hormone (Nandrolone decanoate) is highly efficient in killing the mature and immature stages of the parasite, as well as stimulating the regeneration of liver tissue in the infected animals.
