The university of basrah ,College of Pharmacy held a viva exam of M.Sc. candidate Reham Adnan Taha

Basrah - College of Pharmacy Media:

A master's thesis at the College of Pharmacy, University of Basrah, examined the "Isolation, Synthesis, and Evaluation of the Biological Activity of Quercetin Derivatives" by student Riham Adnan Taha. The study addressed the isolation of quercetin from Iraqi onion peels and the synthesis of several derivatives, studying their biological activity as antioxidants, antibacterials, and against Triple-Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC), in addition to a theoretical study of their anticancer activity using molecular docking technology.

The thesis concluded that all quercetin derivatives possess a stronger anticancer activity than that found in quercetin itself. Additionally, compounds (1 and 2) showed activity against Gram-negative bacteria (E. coli) compared to quercetin.

The thesis recommended studying the kinetic properties of the synthesized compounds, evaluating their in vivo efficacy on animals, measuring the median lethal dose (LD50), and synthesizing further derivatives from the prepared compounds.
