Basrah - College of Pharmacy Media:
The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the College of Pharmacy, University of Basrah, organized a seminar titled "Preparation and Biological Study of Some Carbohydrate and Aminocarbohydrate Compounds." The lecture was delivered by Dr. Mudhar Najim Abdullah.
The seminar included an explanation of the preparation of aminocarbohydrate compounds containing alkyl groups, and the study of these compounds as inhibitors of a type of protein called Connexin (CX26), which is believed to be the main cause of deafness in newborns at a rate of (1 per thousand children).
The results of the study showed that these prepared compounds have a high ability to inhibit these proteins, making them eligible for use as treatments for this type of deafness.
