University of Basrah holds a scientific symposium about the cosmetic methods

College of Pharmacy held a scientific symposium about : (Cosmetic Methods: Benefits and Risks) with the participation of researchers and specialists. The 

 

 symposium included three main topics given by Dr. Amer Khazal, who addressed through his lecture an explanation of the electromagnetic spectrum and the use of laser, infrared , ultrasound devices (sonar) ), Ultraviolet rays and gamma rays, and the methods of correct use of them in  the plastic and reconstructive surgeries, as well as the health risks of misuse by non-specialized and licensed persons. The lecture also dealt with the definition of the biological effect of the use of phototherapy in dermatology and its development with modern laser devices in the medical and cosmetic field through methods of removal Hair, tattoos, signs of aging, treatment of subcutaneous hematomas, varicose veins removal and fat dissolving. The specialist Dr. Zainab Al-Khalidi introduced a lecture  about development of modern laser devices with integrated cooling in the medical and cosmetic field and the methods of prevention used for the skin ,of all kinds while avoiding the occurrence of burns due to heat and misuse, as was explained in many cases of treatment at the beauty center and the desired results from the use of modern technologies . Finally, Dr. Osama  Ayoob explained that there are many fake and unwanted cosmetics in Basra city that contain corticosteroid compounds or toxic substances such as mercury and others and are sold in pharmacies and shops, which leads to the emergence of side effects and many diseases. . The symposium aimed to raise health awareness and educate the community about the negative phenomena prevalent regarding plastic surgery of all kinds and the use of cosmetic products in a safe and healthy manner.
