College of Pharmacy at University of Basrah held a scientific symposium entitled (Facts and consequences after weight loss surgery) with the participation of researchers and specialists. The symposium dealt with a set of axes, the first axis in which was a lecture given by Dr. Salah Kadhim about the surgical aspect and the different types of weight reduction surgeries, the complications of those operations and the reasons for carrying out those operations. The other axis was introduced and discussed by Dr. Azza Sajid related to physiological effects of weight reduction surgery on the body system after weight loss operations, whether they were negative or positive. The doctor, specializing in nutrition, Wifaq Hassan, demonstrated the importance and necessity of nutritional supplements after the surgery. and finally Dr. Nour Mohamed introduced pharmacodynamic and pharmacodynamic lectures following weight loss surgeries. The symposium recommended not performing weight loss surgery operations except after all attempts to lose weight have been exhausted, as well as educate the people about the dangers and consequences of such operations and calling for the establishment of an integrated specialized center on obesity and nutrition, and urged researchers to study long-term problems after performing the operations.
