A master's thesis at the College of Pharmacy discusses the impact of climate on the colocynth plant.

Master's Thesis Defense | The Iraqi Bitter Apple Plant:

The College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah held a discussion for a Master's thesis titled: (Study of the Effect of Climate on the Concentration of Cucurbitacin E Extracted from the Leaves and Fruits of the Iraqi Bitter Apple Plant, and a Study of Its Biological Activity), presented by the student Hind Emad Mohammed.

The study aimed to explore the significance of this substance and determine its concentration during the winter and summer seasons. It also investigated its properties as an antioxidant, antibacterial, and antifungal agent, in addition to assessing its effect on red blood cells to test its toxicity based on potential hemolysis.

The study concluded the distinct efficacy of the substance as an anti-hyperglycemic agent, as well as its protective role for DNA.
