Scientific Activities | Seminar on Substance Use Disorder:
The College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah meticulously organized a highly significant educational and scientific seminar titled: (Substance Use Disorder: Its Clinical Signs, Treatment Methods, and Prevention).
The seminar distinctively featured a specialized lecture meticulously delivered by the faculty member Rania Awda. In her comprehensive presentation, she clearly explained that drugs are profoundly dangerous chemical substances that directly alter the functioning mechanisms of the brain, causing radical changes in emotions and behavioral patterns. She systematically clarified that drugs are categorized into numerous types, explicitly including both illicit and medical substances. Unregulated consumption can unequivocally lead to exceptionally severe side effects ranging from obstinate addiction, acute psychological and physiological transformations, complex prevailing health issues, and frequently, unfortunately, death.
Furthermore, the lecture extensively discussed fundamental ways to proactively prevent this impending danger through significantly intensifying education, enhancing proactive family communication, providing accessible psychological counseling, and actively guiding youth towards beneficial alternative activities. Additionally, the lecture fundamentally aimed to loudly clarify the catastrophic risks aggressively forced upon society and precisely how to scientifically treat severe addiction cases through highly specialized therapeutic programs, effective evidence-based medications, and continuous, unwavering social and psychological support.
