As part of the University of Basrah’s policy of adopting environmental sustainability...the College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah launches a new afforestation campaign on the occasion of National Afforestation Day

The College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah organized a volunteer campaign to plant trees in the college’s gardens on the occasion of National Planting Day, corresponding to March 12 of each year. A number of professors, students, and employees of the college participated in the campaign to plant multiple types of plants that promote the concepts of sustainability and environmental preservation.
The head of the Pharmacognosy and Medicinal Plants Department, Assistant Professor Dr. Ola Muhammad Nour Al-Moussawi, stated: We have purchased approximately (200) seedlings that varied between eucalyptus trees, the hero’s brush, galliflora, acacia, the coastal tree, Mary’s palm, camel rose, lamb’s slipper, moringa, and safflower trees, in addition to some flowers such as roses. The seal, jasmine, eagle rose, and Christ's thorn are all plants that are resistant to salinity and heat, in addition to their beauty and importance in terms of increasing green cover and resistance to desertification. They also have medical uses, as they can be used in drug research and laboratories, such as the oleander plant and the palm of Mary.

Directions of the Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Higher Education regarding national afforestation campaigns and spreading green environment concepts to preserve human health and create aesthetic atmospheres that help adapt to the climate and reduce temperatures by planting larger areas with green plants.
