The College of Pharmacy organizes a scientific symposium on the occasion of World Breast Cancer Awareness Month
The College of Pharmacy, in cooperation with the Women’s Empowerment Division at the University of Basrah and the Basra Health Department, organized; A scientific symposium under the slogan (Because you deserve it).
The symposium aimed to raise awareness about breast cancer and the importance and necessity of early screening to avoid infection and loss of life
The symposium included two lectures, the first by Dr. Zainab Kamel Dhahi, a specialist in early detection and screening for cancer, in which she explained the importance of this topic because breast cancer is the number one cancer globally, regionally and locally, as it constitutes a third of women’s cancer cases and it is one of the most important cancers that is detected early. We all hope that in the next few years it will be detected early in its initial stages and thus we will reach high recovery rates exceeding 95%. The lecture also showed the places for early detection, which are five fully equipped clinics, under the supervision, follow-up and support of the Director General of the Basra Health Department, equipped with medical teams. Specialized in the governorate's hospitals, which is the early detection clinic for breast diseases in Basra Women's and Children's Hospital, Basra Teaching Hospital, Al-Mawa'ani Teaching Hospital, Al-Sadr Teaching Hospital, and Al-Sayyab Teaching Hospital. As for the second lecture, it was by Dr. Ayman Kazem Jamil, who specializes in surgical oncology. She explained in her lecture the most important aspects related to breast cancer, including the causes and risk factors, how to prevent them, and how to avoid the occurrence of some of these factors and causes. The lecture also included a detailed explanation about the tests necessary to detect breast cancer and how to Self-examination to avoid suffering in the future. One of the most important diagnostic methods is the use of X-rays and ultrasound available in early breast cancer screening centers. She also stressed the importance of having early breast cancer detection centers for all age groups and explained the most important therapeutic methods and modern surgical operations that can facilitate the treatment and prevention procedures for the affected person. These methods are conservative mastectomy and lymph node removal.
The symposium recommended the necessity of periodic examination to detect breast cancer for all age groups in order to ensure complete recovery before the disease spreads.
