The College of Pharmacy organizes a scientific symposium on the pharmaceutical industry in Iraq

The College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah organized a scientific symposium entitled (The pharmaceutical industry in Iraq, reality and ambition), with the participation of researchers and specialists.
The symposium addressed several topics, including defining the meaning and importance of the pharmaceutical industry and its branches, explaining its impact on the countries’ economy and national income, talking about the history of the pharmaceutical industry in Iraq and its origins since ancient times in the various eras before Christ or before Islam and after it, and the emergence of many compounds of natural or chemical origin, then discussing To the pharmaceutical industry in modern Iraq and the first national pharmaceutical laboratories in the private and public sectors and in the various regions of Iraq, including Basra, with a comparison between them in terms of the number of products and classifications and their ability to meet the country’s need for medicines and reduce imported ones, with a comparison with neighboring countries in terms of the number of factories.
The symposium also included an introduction to the mechanism of work of the drug control laboratories in the Basra Health Department and how they control the official examination of drugs in the Iraqi Ministry of Health, whether they are local factories or drugs imported by offices and companies. Therefore, the drug will be safe and effective when it reaches the citizen, by examining it in several ways. Equipment in drug control laboratories chemically, physically, and biologically, then an examination certificate is issued for the purpose of the dispensing release process.
