Seminar on Synthesis of Antibiotic Drug Compounds Hosted at the College of Pharmacy

The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of Basrah organized a specialized seminar focusing on the synthesis of advanced chemical derivatives with antibiotic potential, attended by prominent researchers and academic faculty.

The session featured a presentation by Master's student Zeina Abdul-Ali Jabr, detailing the functional activation of "Dibenzo-18-Crown-6-Ether" for the synthesis of alpha-beta unsaturated ketone compounds, scientifically classified as Chalcones.

The study explored the chemical reaction mechanisms involving aromatic aldehydes to produce these compounds. Research findings underscored their significant antibacterial and anti-fungal properties, paving the way for the development of highly efficient anti-infective medications.
