Faculty Member at the College of Pharmacy Conducts a Scientific Trip to Collect Medicinal Plants in the Kurdistan Region
Assistant Professor Dr. Ola Mohammed Noor Al-Mousawi, a faculty member at the College of Pharmacy, University of Basrah, conducted a specialized scientific trip to the governorates of Sulaymaniyah and Erbil to enhance research materials in the college's laboratories.
Dr. Al-Mousawi stated that the primary objective of the trip was to collect rare and diverse medicinal plant samples for advanced laboratory research. She explained that May was chosen as the optimal timeframe for collection because it coincides with the flowering season, a period when active chemical compounds reach their peak concentration, thereby ensuring higher accuracy and quality in scientific results.
The trip also featured productive academic collaboration with Professor Dr. Karzan Qader Omar from the University of Sulaymaniyah and Dr. Sahar Hussein Rashid from the College of Agriculture in Halabja. Together, they worked on gathering and classifying various species unique to the northern Iraqi environment, facilitating the extraction of active substances for use in pharmaceutical innovations and research.
