A faculty member at the College of Pharmacy publishes a research in an international journal

The lecturer at the College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah Dr. Ahmed Abdel Karim Abdel Abbas, published a paper entitled (Ex-vivo preparation and laboratory evaluation of nanofibers for a drug for 6-mercaptopurine to give a fast-acting drug orally) in the Indian NeuroQuantology journal with an impact factor (0.9) and within the quarter  3rd for Scopus Ranking
The research dealt with the formulation of 6-mercaptopurine drug used to treat leukemia and other diseases such as ulcerative colitis and rheumatism in the form of nanofibers by electrospinning method, and the prepared drug was tested in the laboratory.
The research also included the preparation of (6) samples of the drug using different types and percentages of polymers such as PVP and PEO, and examining them using an electron microscope device and a drug release test device from the prepared samples to choose the best sample to show its effectiveness.
The research concluded that the preparation of 6-mercaptopurine in the form of nanofibers greatly increases its solubility and drug release rate, which reaches 100%.
