Basrah - College of Pharmacy Media:
To reinforce the concept of a productive university and to actively contribute during the current circumstances to confront the risks of the Coronavirus outbreak, staff at the University of Basrah manufactured a quantity of liquid hand sanitizers, in addition to hand sanitizing gel, after most of them ran out in pharmacies across Iraq. This was carried out under the direct supervision of the Presidency of the University of Basrah, with the participation of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Professor Dr. Falah Hassan Shari, the Dean of the College of Engineering, Dr. Ramzi Salim Ali, the Dean of the College of Pharmacy at the National University, Dr. Mohammed Sabbar, the Vice Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Dr. Miqdad, the Head of the Pharmaceutics Department, Dr. Ahmed, the Head of the Pharmacology Department, Dr. Muhsin Ghalib, the Head of the Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department, Dr. Mundhir Abdul-Jalil, faculty member Rafid Abdul-Raouf, and in collaboration with Dr. Alaa Abdul-Razzaq from the College of Engineering.
The Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Dr. Falah Hassan Shari, confirmed: "The materials used in the manufacturing process are from the laboratories of the University of Basrah, namely alcohol, glycerin, hydrogen peroxide, and polymer."
Shari added: "This initiative comes from the sense of responsibility of the University of Basrah staff towards society to confront any risks that this virus may cause." He added that the produced quantities will be distributed to Basrah hospitals as a contribution from the university to preserve the lives of our healthcare workers, who sacrifice everything for our lives and the lives of our families.
He also stated that the university's staff is fully prepared to manufacture medical preparations as soon as raw materials are available, to cover the needs of hospitals and health centers throughout the governorate and Iraq.
