The Pharmaceutics Department of the College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah held a panel discussion entitled “3D printing technology for preparing floating tablets on the surface of the stomach” with the participation of researchers and specialists.
The seminar dealt with a lecture given by the assistant lecturer Nour Youssef, in which she demonstrated the importance of the extrusion-based 3D printer as a means to build complex 3D structures, as this technology was harnessed in the pharmaceutical fields to design many preparations, and many researches were conducted showing the feasibility of this technology for designing floating pills. On the surface of the stomach by testing several polymers to design a low-density reticular internal structure to prolong the residence time of the stomach in order to improve the drug release rate and thus improve bioavailability and therapeutic efficacy.
The lecture indicated that it is possible to apply the commonly discovered formulas in pharmaceutical research with high efficiency, as the most difficult challenges facing researchers is to create a balance between the duration of the deluge of pills and the release of the drug. Regular and controlled.
