The dean of the College of Pharmacy, Prof. Falah Hassan Shari, obtained a certificate of participation in the international workshop (Coronary Artery Disease in Diabetes Mellitus Patients), which was organized by the Russian Pharma courses platform, an independent online educational platform for health care professionals in the Middle East and North Africa region.
The workshop included a lecture on atherosclerosis in patients with type 2 diabetes, which begins to develop in them many years before the discovery of diabetes and even before its formation.
Men with type 2 diabetes are two times more likely to develop fatal atherosclerotic disease, while women are four times more likely to develop it.
And the arteries that are prone to atherosclerosis in patients with diabetes, and also in people who do not have diabetes, are: the coronary arteries in the heart and responsible for supplying blood to the heart muscle itself, and the arteries in the brain that carry blood to it, as well as the large arteries in the legs.
