The Pharmacology and Toxicology Department of the College of Pharmacy at University of Basrah organized a panel discussion entitled (Small Molecules in the Treatment of Targeted Cancer), with the participation of researchers and specialists.
The discussion session included a lecture given by Ban Majid Ali.
The lecture included a review of the development taking place in the field of pharmaceutical industries related to cancer, especially small molecules in the treatment of targeted cancer.
Where the lecture indicated that there are approximately (89) drugs of these small molecules that have obtained the approval of the American Food and Drug Administration for use in various types of cancers from 2001 to 2020. And that there are more than 1,000 molecules currently in the process of clinical trials.
The lecture added that the benefit of knowing the mechanism by which these molecules work is to target more than one cancerous trait at the same time
The aim of the lecture was that following up on such development provides researchers with an opportunity to explore and identify new features and pathways in the development of cancer, on the basis of which such molecules are made.
