University of Basrah ,College of Pharmacy held a viva exam of M.Sc. candidate Raghda Mohamed Kamel

Basrah - College of Pharmacy Media:

The College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah discussed a master's thesis titled "Synthesis, Characterization, and Study of Some Biological Activities of New 2-amino-4-thiazolidinone Compounds and Their Derivatives."

The thesis, presented by student Raghda Mohammed Kamel, aimed to study thiazolidinone compounds and their derivatives to be used as a basis in designing new pharmaceutical compounds with analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties through the binding and selective inhibition of the Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) enzyme. The chemical structures of the synthesized compounds were characterized using physicochemical properties, accurate spectral and quantitative analysis, as well as Magnetic Resonance.

The study also included testing the anti-inflammatory activity, where the results showed that all synthesized compounds reduced edema volume with statistically significant differences. Regarding analgesic activity, the compounds exhibited very good analgesic effects. In addition, they passed the gastric ulceration test, proving to be safe compared to the control compounds.
