A lecturer at the College of Pharmacy was a member of the Master's thesis discussion committee in Mosul

Prof. Dr. Rahim Jamil Muhaisin, a lecturer at the College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah, participated in the discussion of a master's thesis (preparation of new bioactive coumarins) by student Nora Thamer from the College of Pharmacy at Mosul University. The thesis aimed to clarify the anti-cancer or anti-bacterial activity, as a series of twelve new derivatives of substituted coumarins in position 7 was synthesized and expected to show biological activity as anti-tumor and anti-bacterial.  In the first step, 7-hydroxymethylcoumarin, denoted here - HY, was prepared according to the literature by condensing resorcinol with ethyl acetoacetate through the reaction called Bigmann reaction. In the second stage, HY was modified  Chemically, through the Barneli reaction, a new compound was denoted by the congener N0. Finally, the latter compound was paired under the influence of thionyl chloride with different compounds of halophenos to form the target congeners, denoted here by N1 - N12.  The chemical structures of the prepared N6-N12 congeners were confirmed by infrared spectra, proton NMR and carbon NMR analysis.
