Faculty Member Participates in a Seminar on "Drug Carriers" at the College of Health and Medical Technologies
Assistant Professor Dr. Laila Jasim Abbas, a faculty member at the College of Pharmacy, University of Basrah, participated in a scientific seminar organized by the College of Health and Medical Technologies in Basrah. Her participation featured a specialized lecture entitled: "Drug Carriers with a Promising Future." In this presentation, she elucidated the scientific concept of drug carriers and their paramount importance in enhancing selectivity, efficacy, and the efficient management of targeted drug delivery systems.
The lecture also highlighted the pivotal role of Nanotechnology in designing molecular carriers at the nanoscale to ensure optimal drug delivery to specific target organs. She explained the classifications of these carriers, outlining them as: natural carriers (such as valinomycin and hemoglobin), and synthetic carriers prepared in laboratories. The synthetic types are further sub-classified into inorganic entities containing metals (like platinum, gold, and zinc) and organic forms such as Micelles, Liposomes, alongside other advanced classifications utilized in modern pharmacotherapy.
