Scientific Seminar on the Role of Calcium in Human Health & Advanced Laboratory Diagnostic Precision

The Department of Clinical Laboratory Sciences at the College of Pharmacy, University of Basrah, organized a scientific discussion session titled "The Relationship Between Calcium and Human Body Health". The session was presented by Dr. Haider Abdul-Karim Al-Wafi, with the participation of several researchers and specialists in the medical and laboratory fields.

The seminar addressed the vital role of calcium in enhancing the efficiency of the nervous and neuromuscular systems, as well as its essential function in regulating hormones that malfunction during calcium deficiency. The speaker highlighted that calcium serves as the cornerstone for maintaining overall bodily functional integrity.

Furthermore, the session emphasized the necessity of following strict laboratory protocols when diagnosing cases of joint and bone pain, to ensure the exclusion of any scientific contradictions in lab results. This underscores the importance of coordinated efforts between public and private laboratories to elevate the quality of healthcare services provided to citizens.

Scientific & Diagnostic Recommendations:

Dr. Al-Wafi emphasized the critical need to include Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP) enzyme testing alongside Calcium and Vitamin D tests for patients suffering from persistent bone and muscle pain.

  • The ALP test serves as a reference standard to validate the accuracy of Calcium and Vitamin D results.
  • It prevents scientific contradictions in lab data often found in less rigorous testing environments.
  • It provides definitive diagnostic proof in identifying the exact cause of joint pain and neuromuscular fatigue.
