Research Presentation and Audience Participation

The Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University of Basrah's College of Pharmacy organized a scientific seminar titled: "Examining Antioxidant, Antimicrobial, and Anti-inflammatory Activities of a New Synthetic Method for Preparing 5-Selenacyanouracil (5SeU) Against Acetaminophen in Mice."

Research Summary

Postgraduate student (Master’s), **Sahar Moayad**, presented a lecture detailing the innovative preparation of a novel selenium-containing uracil compound (5-Selenacyanouracil / 5SeU) synthesized in an aqueous medium.

Scientific Outcomes & Key Metrics
Characterization
Comprehensive chemical characterization and Median Lethal Dose (LD50) calculation were successfully completed.
Antioxidant Efficacy
Results demonstrated potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities of the 5SeU compound.
Histology
Histological section analysis confirmed the protective effects of the compound against Acetaminophen toxicity.

The seminar facilitated high-level academic discussions among faculty members and researchers, focusing on the potential therapeutic applications of 5SeU in pharmaceutical formulations. This study represents a significant step toward developing safer treatments for drug-induced liver injuries.
