The President of the University of Basrah Prof. Dr. Saad Shaheen Hammadi, signed a memorandum of scientific cooperation with Shahid Beheshti University in Iran, with the aim of developing the scientific field between the two universities.
 Dr. Saad Shaheen stated: The memorandum included the exchange of professors and students and scientific and technical expertise in all medical sciences, including pharmaceutical sciences, which are herbal medicine, alternative medicine and other specialized medical sciences.  The memorandum also included future cooperation to prepare cadres, train students, and improve the quality of education at the University of Basrah in addition to the scientific contribution to laboratories, lectures, conferences, and seminars at the two universities.
 It aimed at the possibility of opening prospects for cooperation with Shahid Beheshti University in Iran in order to improve the scientific and technical competence of the cadres and to provide medical specialization faculties with scientific expertise specialized in medical and pharmaceutical sciences in specializations that do not exist within the structure of the University of Basrah
