The Department of Clinical Laboratory Sciences at the College of Pharmacy, University of Basrah, organized a panel discussion entitled: "My PhD Journey: Key Insights and Opportunities for Growth."
The session featured a presentation delivered by Dr. Manal Khalil, who shared her academic scholarship experience at top-ranked Iranian universities in the medical and health sciences disciplines, aiming to exchange valuable scientific, practical, and personal insights.
The discussion highlighted practical approaches to translating academic research into domestic production—such as isolation kits and molecular imaging devices—alongside advanced pedagogical methods, effective scientific communication, and researcher support mechanisms. It also reviewed research workflow organization, electronic management systems, and efficient resource allocation, including the utilization of surplus clinical radiotracers for research purposes after fulfilling patient healthcare needs.
Furthermore, the session addressed the vital role of university support services, managing academic research stress, positive mentorship, simplicity, and mutual respect in cultivating an environment conducive to learning and achievement. It underscored that the true value of studying abroad lies in adapting proven international practices to fit our university’s local context and capabilities, empowering researchers and enhancing academic performance based on the principle that meaningful progress begins with actionable, realistic steps.
