The Clinical Laboratory Sciences Branch at the College of Pharmacy, University of Basrah, organized a workshop titled "Occupational Safety and Health". The workshop featured a lecture delivered by Dr. Zuhair Ghalib, in which he explained that occupational safety and health is a science dedicated to protecting individuals from hazards, diseases, and accidents arising from the workplace. This is achieved through establishing clear objectives for occupational safety and health programs, providing preventive measures against risks by requiring management to enforce regulations and supply necessary protective equipment, as well as obligating employees to comply with safety requirements in the work environment.

Dr. Zuhair noted that the workshop aims to evaluate training and awareness in the field of safety, and to assess the safety conditions applied in the work environment. He also reviewed a number of international safety standards, including OHSAS, ISO, and NEBOSH.
