The College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah has successfully defended a Master's thesis entitled:

"Preparation, Characterisation, and Evaluation of a Ketoconazole Novasome-Based Gel: An Ex Vivo Study"

The thesis, presented by student Duaa Jabbar Sabti, involved the encapsulation of Ketoconazole within vesicular drug delivery systems based on Novasomes. The study further investigated the influence of Co-surfactants on Novasome formulation, and identified the most suitable pharmaceutical dosage form for the Ketoconazole-loaded Novasome suspension.

The study's findings supported the hypothesis that Novasomes represent an excellent vesicular delivery system with nano-scale particle sizes and a narrow polydispersity index, thereby enhancing Ketoconazole efficacy through improved drug release and diffusion across the Agar medium, and facilitating its permeation through fungal cell walls owing to the presence of stearic acid as a permeation enhancer. Ex vivo antifungal susceptibility testing on experimental animals and skin deposition studies remain among the study's future recommendations.
