The College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah discussed a Master's thesis titled "Pharmacological Evaluation, Extraction, and Chemical Analysis of Leaves and Fruits Extract of Cordia myxa L. in Basrah, Iraq" presented by the student Ola Nasser.

The study focused on Cordia myxa L. regarding extraction methodology, phytochemical profiling, and pharmacological screening. Two extraction techniques were compared: thermal reflux (Reflux) and ultrasonic-assisted maceration (Maceration-Sonication). Phytochemical constituents were identified using chemical screening, TLC, and HPLC.

Total contents of phenolics, flavonoids, tannins, and carotenoids were quantified alongside evaluating antioxidant capacity across multiple assays. Furthermore, in vivo pharmacological effects of the extracts were evaluated in mice models, specifically demonstrating analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antidepressant activities.

The study aimed to establish optimal extraction parameters for active ingredients from Cordia myxa leaves and fruits while evaluating safety and therapeutic profiles. The findings confirm that Cordia myxa is a rich source of bioavailable phenolics and flavonoids with promising pharmacological properties, supporting its development as a cost-effective natural constituent for nutritional and pharmaceutical applications.
