Pharmacy Colleges of University of Basrah and Al-Maqal University Establish Medical Unit for Arbaeen Pilgrims

The Colleges of Pharmacy at University of Basrah and Al-Maqal University have established a medical unit along the road connecting Al-Samawah and Al-Nasiriyah, providing healthcare and medical services to pilgrims walking on foot on the occasion of the Arbaeen visitation.

Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Prof. Dr. Jibran Khalil Hassan, stated: "In an initiative greatly appreciated by the pilgrims, a group of faculty members and staff from the Colleges of Pharmacy at University of Basrah and Al-Maqal University set up a medical unit along the road connecting the Al-Bathaa area and the holy city of Karbala, for the purpose of providing medical services to Arbaeen pilgrims."

Dr. Jibran further added: "The unit was established through the joint efforts of Dean of the College of Pharmacy at Al-Maqal University, Dr. Falah Hassan Shiri, and the staff of the College of Pharmacy at University of Basrah. Our team also included female staff members to provide medical care for women pilgrims."

He continued: "We provided various services to walkers and participants in the mourning procession, including the provision of medicines and medical supplies such as supports and braces, as well as blood glucose and blood pressure monitoring devices, and everything else a pilgrim may need during their journey — all funded through self-financing."

It is worth noting that this initiative by the College of Pharmacy at University of Basrah and Al-Maqal University is held annually on the occasion of the Arbaeen of Imam Al-Hussain (peace be upon him), as part of the voluntary community service activities.
