The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the College of Pharmacy, University of Basrah, organized a workshop entitled "From Difficulties to Success: Overcoming Obstacles Facing Postgraduate Students."

The workshop included a lecture delivered by Dr. Maan Abdul-Razzaq, addressing the challenges and obstacles faced by newly enrolled postgraduate students pursuing higher degrees at the university, from the preparatory coursework year to the scientific research phase. The speaker emphasized that embarking on postgraduate studies requires absolute focus on academics and source collection, advising students to set aside external issues that might disrupt their academic preparation and research readiness.

The lecture highlighted common academic challenges, such as obtaining reference materials and understanding complex scientific topics. Practical solutions were presented, urging students to consult department faculty members and collaborate with peers, stressing that maintaining a supportive, non-selfish community among students facilitates passing exams and overcoming obstacles.

Furthermore, the workshop discussed post-coursework phases, particularly the selection of sub-specializations which primarily depends on academic GPAs. Dr. Abdul-Razzaq explained that not securing a preferred specialization does not signify failure, noting that many students who missed their first choices eventually discovered their passion and excelled in other fields. Finally, the workshop addressed financial and social challenges, offering realistic guidance designed to help students sustain their primary focus on academic success and excellence.
