Basrah - College of Pharmacy Media:

The Department of Pharmacognosy and Medicinal Plants at the College of Pharmacy, University of Basrah, organized a seminar titled "History of Diseases and Epidemics in Basrah 1921-1939".

The seminar included a lecture delivered by the faculty member Sabreen Karim Manati, in which she discussed the health and environmental situation in Basrah during the British Mandate and the early Royal era. She analyzed the local administration's response to the prevalent epidemics of that time, such as cholera and plague, and the key measures taken to mitigate their risks.

The lecture also shed light on the role of early medical institutions, such as hospitals and health quarantines, and monitored the reactions of the Basrah community toward modern health measures like mandatory vaccination and medical isolation.

The seminar aimed to understand the historical roots of the city's health system and draw lessons from ancient preventive policies, documenting the impact of Basrah's climatic and geographical conditions on the course of diseases and the development of community awareness toward modern medicine.
