The College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah, in partnership with the Basrah Health Directorate, conducted a comprehensive seminar on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR).
The keynote lecture, delivered by **Pharmacist Alaa Muhammad Mahmoud**, Head of the AMR Control Department, provided a technical review of the World Health Organization (WHO) strategy. The session included a detailed analysis of 2023 resistance data within Basrah, explaining the biological evolution of multidrug-resistant bacteria and their threat to clinical treatment efficacy.
The seminar aimed to raise awareness against the misuse of antibiotics for non-bacterial (viral) infections, which renders life-saving medications ineffective. It concluded with a stress on the essential cooperation between academic institutions and healthcare providers to safeguard public health and preserve the therapeutic power of antibiotics.
